Apple’s Smart Display, an iPad-Like Device with Built-In Intelligence, Rumored for Next Year Release.
Apple Dives into Smart Home Device Design
Rumors suggest that Apple is crafting a new smart home device that integrates the functionalities of an iPad, an Apple TV, and a HomePod. If all goes as planned, this groundbreaking device could hit the shelves next year.
A Multifunctional Device for Your Home
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg revealed in this weekend’s PowerOn newsletter that the tech giant is working on a “low-end smart display for using FaceTime and controlling home appliances,” slated for release next year. The new device is designed to run everyday apps such as Calendar, Notes, and Home, while allowing users to control their home appliances and quickly access information. Apple has also tested prototypes with magnets for wall mounting.
A New Operating System for Your Home
This new smart display will be compatible with Apple Intelligence, a feature that Apple’s current home product line cannot execute on the device. It will operate on a new operating system called homeOS, based on the tvOS from Apple TV. “I expect both operating systems to eventually merge and operate on every Apple device for the home,” Gurman stated.
Rumors Swirl Around Smart Home Product
Speculation about such a product has been ongoing for a while. Many have stated that the mysterious smart home device will feature a display akin to that of an iPad, instantly positioning it among the top smart displays. According to a report earlier this week by 9to5Mac, the device will feature a square screen and run on an A18 chip. However, it is currently unclear whether this will be the standard A18 chip or the more powerful A18 Pro found in the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.
For now, all this information should be taken with caution. We won’t know until 2025 if this new Apple device will manage to carve out a niche among the top smart home devices.
