Google Chat Launches ‘Huddles’ to Compete with Discord and Slack
In its latest update, Google Chat has introduced "huddles," aiming to compete with platforms like Discord and Slack by offering similar features.
Google Chat Introduces New Communication Tool
Over the past five years, the way we work has transformed significantly. Remote work has become commonplace, and companies are constantly innovating to capture our attention with their communication platforms from Monday morning onwards. A prime example is Google, which recently unveiled its new feature called “huddles”.
What is a “Huddle”?
Familiar to users of Slack, the term “huddle” is now part of Google Chat, offering a similar tool under the same name as its competitor. Essentially, huddles are designed to replicate those quick, in-person chats you might have while passing by someone’s desk or waiting for a meeting to start.
How to Use a “Huddle”?
Instead of scheduling an audio or video call, you can simply click the phone icon in a chat and select “start a huddle”. This creates a space within the chat for a quick conversation. As usual, you can also switch to a video call during the meeting if needed.
When Will It Be Available?
This feature, already familiar to users of platforms like Discord or Slack, will be accessible in individual and group messages, as well as in spaces. Those with fast-release domains can expect to see it by December 20, while users with scheduled-release domains will start seeing huddles on January 6. So, patience is key as Google Chat’s huddle is just around the corner.
