WeWalk Smart Cane 2 at CES 2025: A Rare Success in AI Innovation
The WeWalk 2 smart cane, showcased at CES 2025, stands out as a meaningful application of artificial intelligence, offering true innovation for visually impaired users.
WeWalk’s New Smart Cane: A Revolutionary Mobility Aid for the Visually Impaired
WeWalk, a trailblazer in assistive technology for the visually impaired, unveiled its latest innovation at CES 2025: the Smart Cane 2. Equipped with advanced TDK sensors, it offers a cutting-edge alternative to the traditional foldable white cane.
A Smart Cane for Enhanced Mobility Safety
Kursat Ceylan, co-founder of WeWalk and visually impaired since birth, states that the Smart Cane 2 facilitates easier, safer mobility. Features include guided navigation, obstacle detection, and a ChatGPT-powered voice assistant, providing hands-free information without the need for a smartphone.
Improved Design and Advanced Features
The Smart Cane 2 boasts a slimmer handle for a more comfortable grip and weighs as much as a standard white cane. It features tactile buttons, eliminating the previous model’s touchpad, which some users found challenging. Ceylan notes it is adaptable to various weather conditions.
A Partner for Autonomous Mobility
“You no longer need to hold your smartphone while moving,” says Ceylan. “Just keep it in your pocket and receive all the information through your WeWalk smart cane.” The cane is available for international pre-order at two price models: $850 for the smart cane with a $4.99 monthly voice assistant subscription, or $1150 for full AI features with no additional subscription fees.
WeWalk has also partnered with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), which will start incorporating the Smart Cane 2 in its training programs from February. The aim is to collect valuable data for instructors to better understand how visually impaired individuals utilize mobility canes and optimize their use of these tools.
