Samsung Unveils Its New Sound Gems
In its ongoing quest to enhance auditory experiences, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Buds3 Pro in July 2024. These new wireless earbuds feature AI Galaxy technology, striking a perfect balance of comfort, innovative design, and smart functionalities. The redesigned in-ear fit includes unique luminous stems, distinguishing them from previous models.
Sound quality is paramount when investing in earbuds. Samsung meets this demand with dual amplifiers and a two-way speaker that includes a planar tweeter. While using them with an iPhone only supports basic SBC and AAC codecs, pairing them with a Samsung smartphone through the dedicated app unlocks additional settings and delivers sound in 24-bit/96 kHz, perfect for audiophiles keen on capturing every recorded detail.
I tested the Galaxy Buds3 Pro with a Pixel Fold. Although full access to advanced features like AI Galaxy (enhancing noise cancellation and offering real-time translation, voice restoration, spatial sound) was unavailable, the Wear app on Android still provides a robust range of options, including sound quality and effects adjustments (equalizer, sound adaptation to ear placement and shape), earbud controls (tap with 6 functions), settings customization (8 menus), and earbud location.
While running, hearing ambient sounds is crucial for safety. The app adjusts for voice and siren detection and enables ambient sound during calls. Running by the sea with frequent wind, the active noise cancellation is impressive, allowing you to adjust the noise cancellation level.
A Design Evolution for Unmatched Comfort
The Galaxy Buds3 Pro offers an immersive sound experience. For those who prefer a less intrusive design, the Galaxy Buds3 promises the same listening comfort with an open type design. A notable innovation in both models: the addition of stems that enhance voice capture by positioning the microphones closer to the user’s face, also enabling more intuitive smartphone control. You can slide and pinch the tactile stems to adjust settings like volume.
With a lightweight of 5.4 g per earbud and IP57 certification, they are ideally suited for daily activities and sports training, like running, thanks to their lightness and durability. However, replacing the ear tips is not straightforward. Samsung has adopted a proprietary attachment system, making their removal tricky and risking damage.
Other Highlights of the New Samsung Earbuds
“Endless listening sessions” are facilitated by their long battery life, up to 30 hours. The Galaxy Buds3 Pro stems also feature a customizable thin light strip for a personalized look. The elegantly designed case ensures easy and instant pairing with your devices upon opening. With active noise cancellation (ANC) enabled, they provide 6 hours of listening, extendable to 30 hours with the charging case (ANC disabled). The case itself can be wirelessly recharged, including on your smartphone like the Pixel Fold or via USB-C, a handy detail for users on the go.
In my opinion, Samsung delivers a compelling performance with the Buds3 Pro, but their technological exclusivity and some minor flaws may deter users outside the Galaxy ecosystem. However, for Samsung enthusiasts, these earbuds are an excellent choice, offering a premium audio experience well-suited even for the most active users. 🙂
