After spending eighteen years in Guantanamo, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and murder, agreeing to a life sentence to avoid the death penalty.
Life Sentence Deal for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed
The mastermind behind the tragic September 11, 2001 attacks, Pakistani Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, has decided to plead guilty in a negotiated plea deal, thereby avoiding the death penalty.
Plea Agreement Also Involves Two Co-defendants
The negotiated sentencing deal also includes Walid Bin Attash and Mustafa Al-Hawsawi.
These two men, like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, have spent nearly two decades behind bars at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, charged with terrorism and complicity in the deaths of over 3000 people in New York and Washington.

Stalling of Judicial Proceedings
The process of bringing them to trial at the Guantanamo military court has been stagnant for some time, mainly due to the “tortures” they endured in CIA secret prisons. This has raised concerns about the validity of the evidence against them.
The Terrifying Profile of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed
What sets Khalid Sheikh Mohammed apart, also known as “KSM”, is his unabashed pride in having designed and orchestrated the deadliest attacks in history. A graduate of an American university who held a position in the Qatari government in the early 1990s, he transitioned from government employee to relentless “terrorist.”
After Osama Bin Laden, KSM is likely the most reviled figure in Al-Qaeda. His interrogations have been notably intense, with the CIA employing extreme torture methods such as waterboarding. Despite these inhumane treatments, KSM has proudly admitted his full responsibility for the 9/11 attacks.
