Is Youth Screen Addiction Spiraling Out of Control?

Young people's connectivity is soaring, with nearly half of children aged 6 to 10 owning a phone. Yet, regulatory measures lag behind. Initiatives like TeleCoop, Mr Arthur, and Jomobox are collaborating to offer educational solutions that promote responsible digital use among parents and children.
A Youth Increasingly Connected
The findings are alarming. The surge in mobile phone use among the youth is striking. According to a study by Ipsos, nearly half of the children aged 6 to 10 already own a phone. This trend intensifies with age, as teenagers (13-19 years) spend over a day and a half per week staring at screens.
Regulatory Awakening Pending
In France, despite last May’s screen commission report, no significant steps have been taken to regulate digital usage among the youth. This lack of legislative framework is a cause for concern, according to Marion Graeffly, co-founder of TeleCoop.
Solutions for More Responsible Digital Use
In response to these concerns, three major players have teamed up to offer practical and educational tools. Their goal: to educate parents and children on the importance of reducing screen time. TeleCoop, Mr Arthur, and Jomobox are collaborating to provide families with tailored plans based on children’s ages.
A Hotline Dedicated to Parents
Beyond these offerings, a hotline has been established to assist parents with questions about their children’s smartphone use. The initiative’s partners also offer an app that rewards children with extra time on their favorite apps for studying school subjects, and a pack to put away phones during family time and to monitor screen usage.
