X Returns to Brazil After Five-Week Ban

The months-long dispute between Elon Musk and Brazilian authorities appears to have been resolved, at least for the time being.
X Makes a Strong Comeback in Brazil
After a five-week ban, tech giant X has restored its services in Brazil, following the authorities’ approval.
Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes declared on Tuesday that regulators could “take steps to restart the platform’s service” after the company met the Court’s demands.
A Lengthy Dispute Settled
The resolution concludes, for now, a protracted dispute between Elon Musk’s X and Moraes, who had demanded that X block certain accounts in Brazil, branding these demands as “censorship orders”. The conflict also involved Starlink, whose Brazilian bank accounts were frozen after X initially resisted the Supreme Court’s demands.
Ultimately, the company complied by blocking the specified accounts and paying a fine nearing $5 million. “X is proud to return to Brazil. Ensuring access to our essential platform for tens of millions of Brazilians was paramount throughout this process,” stated the company.
Defending Freedom of Expression
X has reaffirmed its commitment to defending freedom of speech within legal boundaries across its operating regions.
Rivalry with Bluesky Intensifies
While X’s conflict has been resolved, its service interruption in Brazil has benefited at least one competitor: Bluesky. Initially a project on Twitter under former CEO Jack Dorsey, Bluesky reported gaining over 2 million new users following X’s ban.
