Google Maps Introduces Update to Simplify Parking

Google Maps has recently been updated with significant enhancements that will make parking easier for millions of users.
Google Maps Partners with SpotHero
Google Maps enhances its functionality by partnering with SpotHero, a digital parking reservation service. This collaboration integrates SpotHero’s parking reservation service directly into Google Maps, leveling the playing field with Apple Maps.
A New and Convenient Feature
As reported by Android Authority, a new feature allows users to reserve parking directly through Google Maps and Google Search via a new “Book Online” button.
Although not entirely new—having softly launched in a preliminary version in April—this feature has been fully accessible to all users since October 8.
An Accessible and User-Friendly Service
To use the SpotHero service within Google Maps, simply open the app and search for parking near your upcoming destination. If there’s availability, the “Book Online” button appears. Clicking this button redirects you to SpotHero’s website to complete your reservation, all within Google Maps, eliminating the need to switch between apps and a web browser.
Furthermore, SpotHero allows you to book parking spots in advance by filtering by date and time, and offers accessibility support for wheelchair users.
Significant Expansion of Service
SpotHero is a significant addition to Google Maps, which has expanded its features this summer to include locating electric vehicle charging stations. Available in 300 cities across the U.S. and Canada, SpotHero serves over 10 million people in North America, taking a 35% commission on each booking.
However, it’s advisable to check if SpotHero covers your city, especially in smaller towns.
