Google Tests Displaying Full Recipes in Search Results

This is the search engine's new strategy to keep users engaged on its platform.
Google Streamlines Access to Online Recipes
Ever been frustrated by having to scroll through endless fluff on a culinary blog just to find the ingredients and instructions? Google is testing a feature that may eliminate this annoyance, a direct outcome of its own policies.
“Quick View” for Direct Access to Key Details
The Verge reported a new “Quick View” button on thumbnails of certain recipes. This button displays the full recipe without leaving the search results page. During testing, a search for “chocolate chip cookie recipe” revealed this “Quick View” button for Preppy Kitchen’s site.
“We are always experimenting with new ways to connect our users with valuable and quality information,” said Brianna Duff, a Google representative, regarding the “Quick View” recipes:
We have partnered with a limited number of creators to start exploring new recipe experiences on search that are beneficial for users and add value to the web ecosystem. We have nothing to announce at this time.
A Vicious Circle Created by Google Itself
There’s an irony in Google testing this feature, as many culinary blogs have started padding their posts with photos and personal anecdotes before the actual recipe—precisely because Google’s search algorithms favor longer articles, boosting their traffic potential.
While this recipe feature is in its infancy, Google has already begun rolling out other tools designed to keep users on its pages and platforms. AI-generated previews in search results are one of the latest (and sometimes surreal) ways the company is changing the game for web content.
