Apple is set to launch smart glasses in 2027, equipped with visual intelligence to compete with Meta.

Apple Enters the Smart Glasses Race

Tech titan Apple is gearing up to revolutionize the wearables market, with plans to launch smart glasses and camera-equipped AirPods by 2027, according to Bloomberg’s veteran reporter Mark Gurman.

Direct Competition with Ray-Ban Meta

Apple’s upcoming smart glasses, designed to compete with the popular Ray-Ban Meta, will feature integrated cameras that work with Apple’s soon-to-be-released Visual Intelligence technology. Set to debut in the iPhone 16 series, this technology will allow users to scan objects and locations, offering instant access to information about their surroundings, similar to Google Lens.

Benefits of Visual Intelligence Technology

Gurman suggests that this technology could enable iPhone 16 users to scan a restaurant with their camera to instantly view its menu and read customer reviews. Theoretically, Apple’s smart glasses could extend this functionality, allowing users to simply look at an object and request information, which could then be displayed on their iPhone screen or heard through their AirPods.

Camera-Equipped AirPods: What’s the Benefit?

Gurman has indicated that the proposed camera-equipped AirPods would offer many benefits of smart glasses without the need for lenses and frames. While these products are not yet available, Apple’s AI features are expected to enhance iOS 18.2, coming this December.
