Major Camera Upgrades Coming to iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

Significant camera upgrades are coming to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max – find out what's in store for you.
iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: A Mobile Photography Revolution
Following the significant upgrade of the ultra-wide camera in the iPhone 16 Pro from 12MP to an impressive 48MP, rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Pro models could see similar enhancements. Analyst Jeff Pu predicts improvements in the telephoto and front cameras of these new smartphones.
Significant Improvements for Budding Photographers
According to Pu, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to feature a 48MP telephoto camera and a 24MP front camera. This is a major upgrade, as Apple has been using the same 12MP TrueDepth front camera since the iPhone 11 Pro. This upgrade will primarily benefit users who frequently use the front camera.
Moreover, photo quality is expected to greatly improve, especially if Apple incorporates its pixel binning technology to enable more effective zoom without compromising image quality. These upgrades should also enhance video recording, yielding crisper, more detailed footage.
A Sleeker Design for the iPhone 17 Pro Max
Jeff Pu also shares intriguing details about the design of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. He suggests that this model will feature a much narrower “Dynamic Island” by using a smaller “metalens” for its Face ID system. This change could make its design more streamlined and closer to top Android smartphones with punch-hole or under-display selfie cameras.
Major Evolutions to Stay Competitive
As we anticipate the launch of competing phones like the OnePlus 13 and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra in early 2025, these enhancements could make the iPhone 17 Pro models some of the best phones on the market. It’s also worth noting that Apple is expected to announce a slimmer model named the iPhone 17 Air.
