Cyberattack Targets Mif, a Life Insurance Company

Learn how Mif, a key player in the life insurance sector, fell victim to a bold cyberattack.
MIF Hit by Cyberattack
The Mutualité d’Ivry (la Fraternelle), commonly known as MIF, suffered a cyberattack over the weekend of October 12, leading to a partial data breach of its members’ personal information. Importantly, passwords, financial assets, and other sensitive details were not compromised.
Limited Personal Data Leak
The institution reported, “MIF was targeted by a cyberattack designed to expose a limited selection of its members’ documents.”
With over 185,000 clients and nearly 5 billion euros in managed assets, MIF confirmed that extracted information typically included names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers.
MIF’s Response to the Attack
Following the attack, MIF took immediate action to protect its clients. “Upon becoming aware of the incident, MIF’s security teams quickly intervened to halt the document exfiltration, and the incident is now resolved.”
The organization has implemented all necessary measures to prevent future attacks and has reported the incident to the National Commission on Informatics and Liberty (CNIL) in compliance with regulations.
Caution Advised for Clients
Despite MIF’s efforts to mitigate the attack, clients are advised to remain vigilant as malicious individuals might exploit the stolen data by impersonating professionals.
