On October 22, 2024, former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries was arrested alongside his partner and another suspect in a federal investigation in New York, according to American media and the BBC.

Coerced Sex Parties for Model Hopefuls

From 2008 to 2015, young men aiming to model for the brand were allegedly forced to attend parties where they were encouraged to consume alcohol, drugs, and Viagra to coerce them into sexual activities, reports CNN.

Confidentiality Agreements and a Fight for Justice

A 2023 BBC investigation revealed that several men signed confidentiality agreements about these sex parties orchestrated by Mike Jeffries.

Attorney Brittany Henderson, representing some of the plaintiffs, told AFP, “Today’s arrests are hugely significant for the male model aspirants who were victimized by these individuals”. She emphasized that the legal battle continues and that Abercrombie & Fitch will be held accountable for these heinous acts.

Abercrombie & Fitch: A Brand in Turmoil

Mike Jeffries left Abercrombie at the end of 2014 with a $25 million severance package, after controversially stating that the brand’s clothes were not meant for “fat” people. Subsequently, the company moved away from its signature style of scantily clad, sculpted models to attract customers. Today, the company faces a scandal that could further damage its reputation.
