Amazon Now Uses AI to Summarize What You’re Watching

Amazon is transforming streaming with X-Ray Recaps, an AI tool that creates personalized summaries of episodes and seasons, enabling users to instantly dive back into their favorite shows.
Amazon Transforms Series Viewing with X-Ray Recaps
Ever forgotten an episode or paused mid-season, struggling to dive back into the story? Amazon has crafted a solution for this common issue. Its new feature for Prime Video provides a custom recap service tailored to your viewing history.
Personalized Summaries Powered by Artificial Intelligence
Titled X-Ray Recaps, this tool leverages generative AI to create “brief, easy-to-understand summaries” of whole seasons, single episodes, or even specific episode segments, customized to stop at “the exact minute you left off.” The company promises “short textual snippets of key twists, character-driven plot points,” and more.
X-Ray Recaps: A Tool to Reignite Your Series Love
Adam Gray, Vice President of Product at Prime Video, states that this tool will help customers “quickly reengage with what they were watching or rediscover why they fell in love with a series initially.” X-Ray Recaps is powered by Amazon Bedrock, Amazon’s proprietary service for building and scaling AI applications. For those concerned about spoilers, the AI is trained to avoid them at all costs.
An Extension of the Existing X-Ray Feature
This is an enhancement of the existing X-Ray feature, which provides trivia and cast information during streaming. X-Ray Recaps has launched today for Fire TV customers in a beta format. Support for additional devices is expected by year-end. Currently, it only works with content produced by Amazon MGM Studios, such as Upload, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Wheel of Time, and The Boys.
