Amazon Launches Drone Deliveries in Phoenix, Weather Permitting

Amazon is transforming delivery by using drones, which provide fast and convenient service for specific items. This service is now available in select Phoenix areas and is set to expand further.
Amazon’s Drone Delivery Innovation
Amazon, the e-commerce titan, has launched a groundbreaking drone delivery service in select Phoenix areas, reports TechCrunch. This long-anticipated technology is now operational for customers in West Valley Phoenix, turning futuristic delivery into today’s reality.
Fast and Diverse Service
Shoppers can now opt for drone delivery by clicking the relevant icon at checkout. Amazon promises delivery within one hour, thanks to the enhanced capabilities of its latest drone, the MK30, which recently received Federal Aviation Administration clearance to operate beyond visual line of sight.
The service offers a range of products including household, office items, and health and beauty products.
Notable Restrictions
However, not all orders qualify for drone delivery. Amazon specifies that only items weighing five pounds or less are eligible. Moreover, drones only operate during daylight and under “favorable” weather conditions, avoiding night-time, strong winds, or heavy rain deliveries.
Planned Expansion
This innovation comes months after Amazon discontinued its Prime Air drone delivery program in California. Nonetheless, the company continues drone deliveries in Texas and is planning a significant expansion into Europe.
