New Matter Update Aims to Perfect Smart Home Platform

Matter version 1.4 requires less user input and now incorporates certified Matter network hardware, enhancing its efficiency and ease of use.
A New Version of Matter for a More Harmonious Smart Home
The smart home of the future is on its way with the launch of the latest version of Matter, the open standard for smart homes. Version 1.4, available since Thursday, promises seamless integration of devices, regardless of the manufacturer.
Enhanced Interoperability
The highlight of this new release is the Enhanced Multi-Admin feature, designed to improve interoperability across different device ecosystems. With Matter 1.4, user consent is required only once. After that, theoretically, new and existing devices should be able to connect to multiple ecosystems without needing additional approval for each platform.
Significant Advancements
The Connectivity Standards Alliance, which manages Matter, describes version 1.4 as “a significant step forward in the Matter ecosystem.” This update also introduces certified Matter routers and access points that securely store your Thread protocol credentials.
Enhanced Features and Additional Devices
Matter 1.4 not only improves existing features but also introduces new ones. Now, solar panels, batteries, heat pumps, and water heaters can operate under this standard. It also extends to Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). Additionally, this version includes protocols to extend the battery life of low-power devices such as switches, buttons, and sensors that connect only intermittently.
With these developments, Matter is moving ever closer to its goal: to offer seamless, worry-free integration of smart home devices.
