What is Bluesky, the Social Network Winning Over Former Twitter Users?

Bluesky, featuring similar coding and interface to X (formerly Twitter), is gaining traction and may potentially compete with the renowned blue bird. Could Bluesky be on the verge of dethroning Twitter?
Bluesky: Twitter’s New Rival?
In the dynamic world of social media, a new platform is making waves: Bluesky. Featuring a user interface similar to Twitter and boasting a 500% traffic increase in the U.S. over ten months, Bluesky appears poised to challenge the iconic blue bird.
Born from Twitter Itself
Bluesky didn’t just appear out of nowhere. In 2019, then Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted about the Bluesky initiative, aiming to create a social network that mirrors Twitter’s essence and funded by Twitter itself. In 2021, Bluesky spun off as an independent entity, led by Jay Graber, a former Twitter developer.
To date, the network claims over 21 million users.
Bluesky’s Promise
Bluesky sets itself apart by offering a decentralized social network. Each user can create and manage their own community. “On Bluesky, you can choose your own feed,” states the App Store. It also provides options to block spam, violent images, or other undesirable content.
A Twitter-like Experience
The similarities with Twitter don’t end with the interface. Bluesky users can also scroll to read “skeets” (the equivalent of tweets), which are limited to 300 characters, post images, links, and more. Two news feeds are available: one for followers and another for trending topics.
Warm Reception with Some Criticism
Bluesky has been warmly received by many users. However, some miss the humor and fear an increase in anxiety-inducing posts. Only time will tell if Bluesky can truly stand as a formidable contender to Twitter.
