Why is Amazon Venturing into New Car Sales?

Amazon is transforming the automotive market with a new platform dedicated to purchasing new cars, offering transparency and convenience, in partnership with Hyundai.
Amazon Launches New Car Sales
The multinational e-commerce and technology giant, Amazon, has today embarked on a new venture: selling new cars. It’s been widely known that Amazon has long harbored ambitions to enter this market.
Amazon is diving into new car sales to expand its footprint in high-value strategic sectors. As online shopping grows, consumers expect a seamless and transparent experience, even with complex purchases like cars. This initiative aims to leverage its data expertise to customize user experiences and utilize its logistics infrastructure to connect buyers with dealerships.
Partnership with Hyundai
The internet behemoth has partnered with Hyundai to kick off its automotive venture. This collaboration, building over several years, previously incorporated Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa into Hyundai vehicles.
Amazon Autos, the New Automotive Sales Platform
With the introduction of Amazon Autos, customers can now purchase new cars directly through Amazon’s platform. However, “dealerships remain an integral part of the process,” according to Fan Jin, the global director of Amazon Autos.
Customer Experience Focused on Transparency
Fan Jin also noted that the project’s objective is to “reshape the car buying experience by making it more transparent, convenient, and customer-oriented.” This new service from Amazon should feel familiar to anyone who has used Amazon.com for shopping. Customers can filter cars by price, model year, color, seating capacity, among other criteria, or choose a specific model. Amazon Autos will then show what’s available at partner dealerships in their region.
