U.S. Teens Stick with TikTok Despite Potential Ban

Despite ongoing threats of a TikTok ban, the majority of American teens still use the platform daily, highlighting its unwavering popularity among the youth in the United States.
TikTok: A Massive Phenomenon Among Teens
In the realm of social media, TikTok has swiftly become a dominant force. A recent Pew Research Center study shows that 57% of American teens aged 13 to 17 use TikTok daily.
TikTok’s Uncertain Future in the U.S.
The future of this platform is increasingly uncertain in the U.S., where a total ban is frequently discussed. TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, lost its initial legal challenge against a law demanding the app’s sale or face a total ban.
TikTok has requested a temporary delay of this law, set to take effect on January 19, as it plans to appeal to the Supreme Court.
Potential Consequences of a Ban
A potential ban could significantly impact teens, 63% of whom say they use the app. The Pew report also highlights that TikTok has the highest percentage of teens claiming to use the service “almost constantly” at 16%, with over a third checking the app “several times a day”.
YouTube and Instagram: Next in Line?
According to the same report, if the ban were to materialize, YouTube and Instagram are poised to benefit. YouTube remains the most used app among teens, with 90% of those aged 13 to 17 reporting they use the service and 73% using it daily.
Instagram, with 61% of teen users, would also likely be a successor, although only half of the teens report using the app daily.
