Microsoft has recently fixed over 160 security vulnerabilities, including three active zero-day flaws. It's highly recommended to update your PC immediately to ensure maximum protection against potential threats.

Microsoft Sets Record with Massive Security Patch

Kicking off 2025 with a significant challenge, Microsoft addressed an unprecedented number of CVEs in its first Patch Tuesday of the year, fixing a total of 161 security vulnerabilities across its software portfolio, the highest since 2017.

Three Critical “Zero-Day” Vulnerabilities

Among the vulnerabilities patched, three were actively exploited “zero-days”. Microsoft typically does not disclose details about the scale of these attacks, the context, or the identities of the cybercriminals involved. This approach helps to provide Windows users with enough time to update their systems while preventing further exploitation by other malicious actors.

However, it is known that exploiting these vulnerabilities could grant system-level privileges. These flaws are located in the Windows Hyper-V NT Kernel Integration VSP, with CVSS scores of 7.8, and are identified as CVE-2025-21333, CVE-2025-21334, and CVE-2025-21335.

U.S. Cybersecurity Agency’s Response

In response to these threats, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) of the United States has added these vulnerabilities to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, mandating federal agencies to deploy these patches by February 4, 2025.

The Importance of Security Updates

Of the total bugs fixed, 11 are rated as critical and 149 as important in terms of severity. Keeping your Windows devices updated is crucial. Additionally, installing and keeping up-to-date with top-tier antivirus programs is highly advised to prevent malicious intrusions. Many such programs also offer advanced features such as VPNs and password managers for enhanced security.
