Nintendo Switch 2 Confirmed

Nintendo has officially announced the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch 2, with a promise to unveil a host of additional details to the public on April 2, 2025.
The Long Wait is Over: The Nintendo Switch 2 is Here
The eagerly awaited announcement has finally arrived. Nintendo has quietly unveiled the much-anticipated Switch 2 via a YouTube video.
As we eagerly awaited a truly next-generation successor to the original Switch, the reveal has finally come to us. More details about the console will be unveiled during a Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025. However, the exact release date remains shrouded in mystery.
A Firsthand Experience Around the Globe
Additionally, Nintendo plans to host “first experience events” in cities worldwide starting in April. The first two will be held in New York and Paris, from April 4 to 6. Other cities in North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia will follow.
Still-Vague Details
The trailer and accompanying press release are light on details. We see how the Switch 2 evolves from the original, featuring a larger screen and Joy-Con controllers that appear to attach via magnets and a small port on the side of the controller.
However, no price, technical specifications, or information about the games that will be available on the Switch 2 have been disclosed.
A Highly Anticipated Announcement
The announcement of the Switch 2 has been long awaited. Rumors had been swirling for months about when the company would unveil its new hardware. The community’s interest in a Switch 2 was so intense that President Shuntaro Furukawa posted on X before the June 2024 Nintendo Direct not to expect news about the console, although he confirmed that the successor to the Switch would be introduced by March 2025.
Since the Switch debuted in 2017, Nintendo has offered players a few minor upgrades. The Switch Lite was a more compact version ideal for gaming on the go, and the Switch OLED featured a premium screen. However, even within the confines of a portable gaming device, the Switch was far behind other consoles in terms of power and performance. Once we get our hands on the Switch 2, we’ll see if it truly lives up to the wait.
