Xiaomi Plans Batteries More Powerful Than Samsung’s

Xiaomi phone batteries may soon exceed the size of all Galaxy phone batteries. Here's a summary of all the key information we've gathered so far.
Xiaomi and the Race for the Biggest Battery
Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is reportedly developing one of the largest batteries ever seen for its next generation of Redmi phones.
The conversation around battery capacity has intensified recently, especially with the OnePlus 13 featuring a robust 6,000 mAh battery. However, Xiaomi plans to push the boundaries even further with its Redmi brand. According to leaks from renowned leaker Digital Chat Station on social media platform Weibo, Xiaomi is considering a future device with a 7,500 mAh battery and is currently testing an 8,000 mAh battery.
A Record Capacity for a Conventional Smartphone
While not the largest on the market, as rugged phones can have batteries up to 10,000 mAh, the new Redmi is expected to mirror a conventional smartphone in design. According to Android Authority, if true, this could mean the next Redmi’s battery life could exceed that of phones like the RedMagic 9 Pro and even the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Challenges of a Large Capacity Battery
However, this increase in battery capacity is not without its challenges. The primary issue, as noted by DCS, is that “the enlarged battery may not support wireless charging”. Additionally, while the unnamed Redmi might outlast the battery life of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, it could struggle to compete with the Galaxy S26, which, according to a recent post on X by Jukanlosreve, may feature a silicon-carbon battery offering more energy in a more compact form.

Xiaomi has more news this week. Another recent post by DCS revealed some hardware specs of the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2. According to the post, the phone will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite, enhanced cameras, full-sized NFC, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Additionally, the phone will sport a battery ranging from 5,600 to 5,700 mAh.
The news of an improved battery in the upcoming Redmi is captivating, but the real question remains whether this phone will launch in the United States. If so, it could certainly earn a spot on our page for the best phone battery lives.
