The Moohan project may have unveiled Samsung's helmet's secret weapon during a practical demonstration.

Samsung Unveils Project Moohan: A New Contender in Extended Reality

Last week, Samsung introduced its first extended reality (XR) headset, currently named Project Moohan, at the Galaxy Unpacked event. While it visually resembles Apple’s Vision Pro, it was not available for live testing. Since the unveiling, popular YouTuber Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, has had a hands-on experience with the device.

Inspired Design with a Unique Twist

The Moohan’s design echoes the Apple Vision Pro, particularly with its glass front panel. However, it features a crucial difference: the user’s eyes are not visible, unlike Apple’s EyeSight technology—a change that many might appreciate. The headset’s strap is akin to that of the Meta Quest Pro and includes removable light blockers. Additionally, Brownlee highlighted that the Moohan’s external battery utilizes a standard USB-C connector, offering greater flexibility in power management despite not being built into the headset.

Gemini: The Game-Changing Feature of Moohan?

The standout innovation of the Moohan lies in its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Named Gemini, this feature integrates AI interaction at a level not yet seen in smartphones. For instance, Gemini Live operates in the background, allowing users to ask questions and issue commands anytime. Coupled with the headset’s numerous sensors, it can identify and analyze what the user is looking at, similar to Apple’s Visual Intelligence or Meta’s Vision AI.

A Bright Future for XR?

It’s too early to predict the Moohan’s impact on the XR market. However, Marques Brownlee believes that beyond its already impressive display quality, this prototype might encourage other manufacturers to embrace and enhance XR technology, potentially leading to a wider and more affordable range of products in the future.
