By 2025, driving diesel vehicles becomes more challenging due to increased restrictions in many cities. However, some areas remain unrestricted. Wondering where you can still freely drive your diesel this year?

2025, the Year of Stricter Diesel Regulations

The year 2025 heralds a significant tightening of restrictions on diesel vehicles, making driving in many urban areas more challenging. However, certain areas such as rural regions, major roadways, or small towns remain exempt from these bans thus far.

Cities Where Diesel is Still Permitted

As Low Emission Zones (LEZs) become more widespread, it’s vital for diesel vehicle drivers to be aware of the places where they can still drive freely. These exempt zones include:

Aix-Marseille, Reims, Rouen, Saint-Étienne, Toulouse, Nice, Strasbourg

In these cities, vehicles classified as Crit’Air 4 or lower are still allowed to circulate freely.

The Crit’Air Vignette, Essential for Diesel Vehicles

To enter certain restricted areas, diesel vehicles must have a Crit’Air vignette, a label that classifies vehicles based on their pollution levels from Crit’Air 0 for electric vehicles to Crit’Air 5 for the most polluting ones. This vignette can be obtained online at the official website certificat-air.gouv.fr for approximately €4.

Consequences of Not Having a Vignette

It’s crucial to note that driving without a valid Crit’Air vignette can lead to a fine of €68 for a car and up to €135 for a heavy-duty vehicle. Thus, acquiring this vignette is important to avoid financial penalties.

Editorial Opinion

It is evident that there is a growing trend towards restricting diesel vehicles as part of environmental protection efforts. Although this transition may seem challenging for some drivers, it is critical to combat air pollution. Therefore, staying informed and adapting to these new regulations is essential for a more sustainable future.
