Zelensky Accuses: Russian Drone Damages Chernobyl
On Friday, February 14, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a serious allegation against Russia.
He claimed that Russia deployed an explosive drone to strike the Chernobyl nuclear plant’s protective metal arch, which encases the infamous reactor and shields the world from its radiation.
Fire Contained, No Radiation Spike
Following the attack, a fire broke out but was quickly extinguished. President Zelensky, speaking on the X platform, assured there was no increase in radiation levels. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed hearing an explosion at the containment arch.
Concrete Evidence of the Attack
Zelensky released images showing a hole in the arch and scattered debris. This damaged structure houses the initial sarcophagus and radioactive debris from the 1986 disaster.
Russia a “Terrorist Threat,” Says Zelensky
President Zelensky labeled Russia a “terrorist threat” and accused it of being the only country that targets nuclear sites regardless of the repercussions.
