Perplexity, a frontrunner in artificial intelligence, launched a groundbreaking tool called Deep Research on Friday. This tool, free for limited use, is engineered to conduct comprehensive research and thoroughly analyze information to address your inquiries.
Heightened Competition
The release comes shortly after OpenAI introduced a similar deep research feature for ChatGPT Pro users, and months following Google’s announcement of Deep Research for Gemini. Yet, Perplexity’s tool stands out from the competition.
Exceptional Performance
“Deep Research excels across a variety of expert tasks—from finance and marketing to product research,” Perplexity stated, noting that it takes about 2 to 4 minutes to deliver a response. During this period, the tool conducts dozens of searches, reads hundreds of sources, and analyzes the content. The company claims it outperforms competitors like OpenAI’s o3-mini and o1, and DeepSeek-R1, achieving a 21.1% accuracy score on the humanity’s final exam benchmark.
Limited Availability for Free Users
Free users can make five queries per day, while Pro subscribers get 500, according to a company tweet. Initially only available on the web, the tool will soon be accessible on iOS, Android, and Mac apps.
