Meta Unveils LlamaCon, an Event Dedicated to Generative AI
Tech giant Meta has just announced its inaugural developer conference focused on generative artificial intelligence, dubbed LlamaCon. The name stems from the company’s naming convention for its AI model series, “llama.” The event is scheduled for April 29.
Promises of Sharing and New Advances
Meta is keeping a tight lid on the exact details of the event, merely promising to “share the latest advancements in our open-source AI developments to help developers excel at what they do best: create incredible applications and products.” The list of speakers and potential products to be unveiled remains undisclosed. However, it is highly likely that the company is working on the Llama 4 model, expected to launch in early 2025.
A Promising 2025 Ahead for Meta
Meta has big plans for 2025, foreseeing it as a standout year. “2025 is shaping up to be another blockbuster year,” the company states. Evidence of this is another major event, Meta Connect, scheduled for September 17, which promises numerous revelations sure to excite developers in virtual and mixed reality, content creators, metaverse enthusiasts, and AI glasses aficionados.
Challenges Ahead for Meta
However, not everything is smooth sailing for Meta. According to TechCrunch, the company is struggling to understand how its competitor DeepSeek managed to develop competing technology at a fraction of the development cost. Additionally, a lawsuit is ongoing, accusing Meta of training its Llama models on copyrighted book materials without permission.
