OnePlus Reportedly Developing Massive Smartphone Batteries

Reports suggest that OnePlus is currently developing high-capacity smartphone batteries. Here's what we know so far.
OnePlus: Pioneering Unprecedented Battery Capacity
Chinese smartphone giant OnePlus has consistently prioritized enhancing battery life, evident from the massive batteries in its devices, like the recent OnePlus 13 with a remarkable 6,000mAh capacity.
A Future Charged with More Power
The journey doesn’t stop here. Leaked roadmaps and reports by industry insider Digital Chat Station indicate OnePlus is developing batteries with capacities up to 7,000mAh and eventually 8,000mAh.
The roadmap hints that upcoming OnePlus flagships might feature 7,000mAh batteries. Yet, OnePlus aims higher as DCS reveals plans for an astonishing 8,000mAh battery.
The Innovative Role of Ouga Lab
In their post, DCS mentioned: “Ouga Lab tested 8000mAh ± 80W, 15% silicon content.” Ouga Lab, a research and development hub for Oppo and OnePlus, seems to have outdone last year’s OnePlus Ace 3 Pro’s battery, which was exclusive to China.
Silicon: A Battery Revolution
Reports suggest that silicon can hold more lithium ions than graphite, making energy cells crafted from it more potent than traditional batteries. Additionally, this new battery is designed to support rapid 80W SuperVOOC charging speeds.
It will be intriguing to see if these larger batteries lead to bulkier OnePlus phones. The introduction of the Glacier battery, which fit 6,000mAh into the space of a 5,000mAh unit, was driven by the manufacturer’s ability to maximize space efficiently.
