Google Gemini: Free Tool to Analyze and Summarize Documents

Learn how Google Gemini, now equipped to analyze and summarize documents at no cost, can transform your approach to handling information.
Significant Advancement for Gemini
Last year, Gemini introduced a groundbreaking feature for its advanced users, allowing them to upload files for AI analysis, including previews, summaries, and chart generation. Excitingly, this feature is now available to all Gemini users for free.
Universal Feature Availability
Google announced last week that this feature would be free, confirming that it is available to all Gemini users, whether they pay $20 per month or not. By “all users,” Google means everyone, regardless of whether they are on Android, iOS, or web browsers.
Limitations and Additional Features
The announcement specifies that only Google Docs, PDFs, and Word documents can be uploaded. As 9to5Google points out, advanced users previously could upload spreadsheets and code files, which seems unavailable to free users. Other features like Deep Research, personalized Gems, saved insights, and the Recall function remain exclusive to paying subscribers.
How to Use this New Feature?
To upload a file, simply start by asking Gemini a question and click on the large plus sign on the side. This action offers additional options, including “Files” and “Drive,” allowing the upload of up to ten different documents at once, either from local storage or Google Drive. However, free users face daily upload limits, unlike their subscribed counterparts.
Once the files are uploaded, you can start querying their content. This process is straightforward and convenient, especially for those who struggle with reading large blocks of text. It’s a significantly more practical solution than manually copying text into Gemini.
