Upcoming Changes to Google Messages
In recent months, Google Messages has undergone significant transformations, including updates to profile images and the integration of Gemini. However, a new report suggests that Google isn’t done enhancing the app yet, with more detailed message status information expected soon.
A More Detailed View of Message Information
Currently, by long-pressing on a message in a conversation, users can access a “view details” option in Google Messages, which displays a simple pop-up showing the message’s send and receipt times. However, a recent beta version of Google Messages, as reported by Android Authority, features a much more comprehensive details page. Screenshots from Android Authority reveal differences between the two versions, including more information about conversation participants, their contact names, and profile photos. It also simplifies seeing who has read a message, even in group chats.
Enhanced User Experience
It’s not just about better information, Google has also added new actions when viewing recipients. According to Android Authority, users will soon be able to click on a contact’s profile photo, revealing three quick actions: call, send a message, and view profile details.
Another upcoming feature is the ability for users to delete messages for all conversation participants. Currently, it is not possible to remove a message from other participants’ threads. It is hoped that Google will follow WhatsApp’s lead, which also offers this feature and allows users a two-day grace period to delete messages.
A Step Closer to Competing
There’s no doubt that Google is working to enhance the overall experience of its messaging app. However, it’s important to note that features found in an APK may not always make it to the final version. The real question is whether, with these new changes, Google Messages can compete with some of the top messaging apps.
