iOS 18.4: Practical Security Update to Simplify Your Life

The latest iOS 18.4 security update has just been released, enhancing your daily experience with new, efficient features designed to safeguard your Apple device.
Apple Passwords: A Major Innovation in iOS 18.4 Beta
The latest iOS 18.4 beta is now available, unveiling several new features and enhancements designed to enhance the iPhone experience. Highlighted by Aaron Perris, a significant new feature has been added to Apple Passwords: a countdown timer for two-factor authentication codes.
A Timer for Two-Factor Authentication
Apple Passwords skillfully combines a password manager and an authenticator into a single app. Previously, the challenge was that two-factor authentication codes would expire after 30 seconds without notifying the user of the impending deadline. This issue has now been addressed.
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a critical security feature that protects your account from unauthorized access. Using an authentication app prevents your 2FA codes from being intercepted and ensures they are constantly changing. However, not knowing when these codes will change and expire could complicate account access.
In response to this challenge, Apple has introduced a new feature in iOS 18.4—a green circle that fills up over thirty seconds, clearly indicating the remaining time before the current code expires and becomes unusable.
What Else is New with iOS 18.4?
Beyond this significant enhancement, iOS 18.4 also introduces other useful improvements in various situations. Users will enjoy an extra row of icons on large CarPlay screens, AI-based priority notifications, a new Genmoji icon for the keyboard, the much-anticipated release of the Sketch style in Image Playground, and new language options for Apple Intelligence.
However, it’s important to note that the beta version still lacks the new Personal Context feature of Siri, meaning Apple’s Assistant still does not possess screen awareness and Personal Context functionality.
The final release of iOS 18.4 is scheduled for early April and is expected to bring significant improvements for iPhone users.
