Find out which Amazon devices will be compatible with Alexa Plus and which ones won't be.

Amazon Introduces Alexa Plus

Amazon has recently unveiled Alexa Plus, an upgraded version of its virtual assistant. Featuring a more natural conversational tone, enhanced personalization, and advanced artificial intelligence, Alexa Plus is designed to help users accomplish even more tasks efficiently.

Accessibility and Compatibility of Alexa Plus

Contrary to expectations, these new features won’t be limited to an additional subscription service. Alexa Plus will be available for free to all Amazon Prime members. For non-Prime members, Alexa Plus will be offered at a price of $19.99 per month.

Amazon also announced that the launch of Alexa Plus is imminent. Initially available only in the United States, it will require ownership or purchase of an Echo Show 8, 10, 15, or 21 to access. But what about other existing Echo devices and those compatible with Alexa?

The following information will guide you on which Amazon devices are compatible with Alexa Plus and which will not be able to support this new virtual assistant.

Which Devices are Compatible?

An Echo Show 8, 10, 15, or 21 is necessary to access Alexa Plus during its initial rollout. However, the service will later be available on all Echo devices with a few exceptions. Echo devices compatible with Alexa Plus for a voice-only experience include:

Echo (second generation and later)
Echo Dot (and Echo Dot Kids) second generation and later
Echo Pop
Echo Spot (second generation)
Echo Show 5 (and Echo Show 5 Kids)
Echo Hub
Echo Studio
Echo Auto
Echo Buds

Which Devices are Not Compatible?

Some Echo devices, however, will not support Alexa Plus:

Echo Dot (1st Gen)
Echo (1st Gen)
Echo Plus (1st Gen)
Echo Tap
Echo Show (1st and 2nd Gen)
Echo Spot (1st Gen)

Despite these exceptions, Alexa Plus will also be accessible via a web browser, the Alexa app, and on compatible Fire TVs and Fire tablets.

With over 600 million Alexa-compatible devices sold to date, it’s understandable that the new Alexa Plus experience won’t be available on all these devices. Indeed, many of them are nearly a decade old or even older, so it’s likely you may not be using them anymore.
