HMD Targets Child Safety with Xplora Device

HMD is prioritizing child safety with its innovative new device, Xplora, designed to reassure parents and ensure the protection of young children.
Unveiling a Cutting-edge Child Safety Device by HMD and Xplora
At the MWC25 in Barcelona, Human Mobile Devices (HMD) captured attention with a pre-event launch of a child-focused safety tool, a result of their partnership with Xplora, aimed to appeal to both parents and children.
James Robinson, HMD’s Senior Vice President for Europe, the Americas, and Enterprise, stated in an interview that the device is designed to provide strong parental control while “offering something that children will willingly embrace and be inspired to use”.
A Unique Device Merging Play and Safety
With the Fusion X1, HMD aims to fulfill this vision by incorporating playful elements into the device, including:
- A “game suit” that encases the device,
- A shell featuring a retractable light to enhance video and photography capabilities.
Robinson highlighted that the company engaged with children through focus groups and consulted parents to align the phone’s features with their expectations, offering:
- Restricted calling and messaging to approved contacts only,
- Secure location tracking,
- Content blocking capabilities.
Special Editions Unveiled at the Event
During an event at FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou, HMD also revealed special edition phones branded with the football club’s insignia.
The HMD Barca 3210, named distinctly rather than under Nokia, closely mirrors a classic model but features the club’s colors. The HMD Barca Fusion includes player signatures printed on the back among other FC Barcelona-related features.
Additional Products Showcased at the MWC25 Pre-Event
Aside from phones, HMD launched Amped Buds, earphones with a case that doubles as a wireless battery charger. The company also introduced basic function phones under the HMD Music range and a flip phone. No details on pricing or availability of these flagship products were provided at MWC25.
