ChatGPT for macOS: The Rising Trend of “Vibecoding”

The latest ChatGPT update for macOS now allows direct editing of Xcode projects, significantly enhancing the capabilities of this already powerful platform.
ChatGPT: The New Ally for macOS Developers
macOS programmers have a new ally in ChatGPT. The latest update (version 1.2025.057) introduces a groundbreaking feature: code editing directly within an Integrated Development Environment (IDE). No more copy-pasting code! Supported IDEs include Apple’s Xcode, Visual Code Studio, and several JetBrains products like Android Studio and PyCharm. A full list is available on OpenAI’s website.
A Highly Anticipated Integration
According to OpenAI, integrating ChatGPT into IDEs was among the most requested features by macOS users following the launch of the “works with app” framework last November. Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers can already enjoy this integration. Meanwhile, Enterprise, Edu, and Free users will have access by next week.
“Vibecoding”: The Rising Trend
The release of this feature coincides with the rise of “vibecoding,” a programming approach that leverages AI tools like ChatGPT—and, of course, “the power of positive vibes”—to develop applications and games. While it might sound like a meme, “vibecoding” is indeed a reality. In a video titled “Vibe Coding is the Future,” Jared Friedman, a managing partner at Y Combinator, revealed that a quarter of the startups in the accelerator’s W25 cohort had 95% of their codebase generated by AI.
Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan emphasized in the same video: “This is not a passing trend. It’s not going away. It’s the dominant way to code. And if you’re not doing it, you risk being left behind.”
