Nintendo Switch 2 to Feature WiFi 6 and NFC Support, FCC Reveals

The FCC has revealed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will feature WiFi 6 technology and NFC support, enhancing and enriching the gaming experience for users.
The Nintendo Switch 2: Emerging Details
The next generation of Nintendo’s console, the Switch 2, is officially on its way, with promising technical features now coming to light. According to The Verge, documents filed with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) reveal that the console will support WiFi 6 and NFC (Near Field Communication).
Enhanced WiFi Connection
This enhancement means the Switch 2’s WiFi will be significantly faster than its predecessor, which only supported WiFi 5. However, the documents show that the Switch 2 will not support WiFi 6E. Tests were only mentioned for 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, not the faster 6GHz network.
It is worth noting that WiFi 6 is not the latest wireless standard; WiFi 7 is. Nintendo typically adopts newer technologies cautiously. The standard PS5 supports WiFi 6, while the PS5 Pro supports WiFi 7, and the Xbox Series X/S models stick with WiFi 5.
Compatibility with Amiibo Figures
The inclusion of NFC indicates continued compatibility with the popular Amiibo figures. The documents specify that the RFID functionality will be located in the right Joy-Con, just as in the original Switch. For those unfamiliar, these figures wirelessly unlock content in games.
Dual Ports for Optimized Charging
Additionally, FCC documents reveal a notable feature: players can charge the Switch 2 via either the lower or the new upper USB-C port. This marks the first official confirmation of dual charging ports on the console.
The release date for the Switch 2 remains undisclosed, although it is expected this year. Details on the launch game lineup will be revealed in the April Nintendo Direct.
