Apple Set to Revolutionize AirPods with Live Translation Feature

Apple plans to update its AirPods to include live translation of conversations, a sci-fi-like advancement that could revolutionize our daily communication.
Real-Time Translation: The Future of AirPods
The Cupertino-based company, which has remained tight-lipped about the development, plans to introduce a new feature to AirPods that allows for real-time translation of conversations, reminiscent of the Star Trek series.
This feature is expected to be part of a software update for the AirPods scheduled for release by the end of the year, according to anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
Competing with Google
However, it’s important to note that competing products, such as the Google Pixel Buds, have offered this feature for several years. Moreover, Apple has had its own translation app on the iPhone since 2020.
In practice, the functionality will work as follows: if an English speaker hears someone speaking Spanish, the iPhone’s translation software will translate the conversation and relay it in English directly into the user’s AirPods. The English speaker’s words will be translated into Spanish and played back by the iPhone.
AirPods: At the Heart of Apple’s Strategy
The AirPods update is part of a broader overhaul of Apple’s software planned for this year. Indeed, the tech giant is set for its biggest iOS redesign ever, along with a revamp of the macOS operating system, aiming to refresh the operating systems for a new generation of users.
What’s Next for AirPods
Beyond software, Apple is also developing new hardware models of the AirPods, including a third-generation of the AirPods Pro and a model with integrated cameras. These cameras will be capable of analyzing the surrounding environment using artificial intelligence. Last year, “Apple introduced new colors for the AirPods Max and the entry-level AirPods 4 models,” a company spokesperson said.
