The CIRPASS-2 project establishes the EU's legislative foundation for digital product passports, with Circularise playing a crucial role in enhancing industrial transparency.

The Rise of Digital Product Passports

The future shaping of Digital Product Passport (DPP) legislation is being spearheaded by the ‘CIRPASS-2’ initiative, with significant research efforts led by ‘Circularise’, an innovative data traceability company, which has announced its official involvement.

A Leading Consortium for a Major Project

Supported by the European Commission under the ‘Digital Europe’ program, the project encompasses a consortium of 49 partners from various fields including industry, research, digital technology, and standardization organizations across Europe until April 2027. The initiative is coordinated by CEA-List, the digital institute of CEA, a French research organization focused on industrial transformation through innovation.

Goals and Ambitions of ‘CIRPASS-2’

One of the key goals is to revolutionize the adoption of DPPs across four critical value chains: textiles, electrical and electronic equipment, tires, and building materials. Through 13 pilot projects, ‘CIRPASS-2’ aims to demonstrate how DPPs can enhance traceability, sustainability, and compliance in essential sectors of the European economy.

The Integration of ‘Circularise’

‘Circularise’ will contribute vital expertise to the implementation of DPPs, closely collaborating with the consortium to ensure the passports meet the needs of all stakeholders, from manufacturers and regulators to recyclers and consumers. “Joining ‘CIRPASS-2’ is an exciting opportunity to pave the way for the future of product transparency. By participating, we aim to make digital product passports a standard tool for consumers, regulators, and businesses to make informed decisions based on a reliable supply chain,” stated Mesbah Sabur, co-founder of ‘Circularise’.

In the coming years, ‘Circularise’ will play a crucial role in ensuring the scalability and functionality of DPPs, supporting industries in achieving their sustainability goals while complying with evolving European legislation.
