A New Chapter in Urban Mobility

Their latest creation—the fully automated bZ4X robotaxi—has started rolling off Chinese assembly lines, with plans to deploy more than 1,000 units by 2026. This ambitious initiative could see these vehicles integrated into major urban fleets, including those already active in sprawling cities like Beijing and Shanghai, where demand for innovative transport solutions continues to surge.

Last year’s classic unveiling of the bZ4X by Toyota marked just the beginning. The model now serves as a proving ground for the Gen-7 autonomous system engineered by Pony.ai. Designed with passengers in mind, the vehicle introduces several cutting-edge features:

Notably, it became the first private company authorized to operate driverless ride-hailing services for the public in Beijing as early as 2022—a significant milestone. Building on that momentum, additional autonomous models were soon deployed within its VTC platform.
