At the 2025 “Airbus Summit,” aerospace giant Airbus unveiled several key technological innovations poised to shape the future of aviation.
Revolutionary Aircraft Wings
The highlight is the introduction of a folding aircraft wing. Project lead Sue Partridge described the wing as long, slender, lightweight, and foldable, enhancing the aircraft’s efficiency and significantly reducing fuel consumption.
“The best fuel is the fuel we don’t burn,” emphasized the engineer, underlining the critical role of energy efficiency in aviation.
DAC: A Technological Marvel
Airbus has also developed a system known as DAC (Direct Air Capture), which extracts carbon dioxide directly from the air. Project leader Yannick Marin Isambert noted that this technology could also contribute to the production of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels).
A New Engine on the Horizon
Moreover, Airbus is developing a new engine called Rise, set to potentially replace the current Leap engine. This engine could cut fuel consumption by 20%, according to Jean-Baptiste Manchette, head of propulsion at Airbus. He highlighted its compatibility with sustainable fuels and its potential future adaptation to hydrogen.
