Amazon Revamps Its Fire HD 8 Tablet Lineup
On Wednesday, Amazon unveiled a major upgrade to its Fire HD 8 tablet series. The 2024 budget model boasts increased RAM, an enhanced rear camera, and built-in artificial intelligence. Starting at $100 (with lock screen ads), the device is currently on sale for October’s Prime Day.
Significant Hardware Enhancements
The new Fire HD 8 features an 8-inch screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution (189 ppi). The 2024 edition sees a boost in RAM to 3GB for the 32GB base model and 4GB for the 64GB variant, marking a 50 to 100% increase from the previous 2GB in the 2022 model.
Integrated AI Capabilities
The latest tablets incorporate generative AI features, similar to Apple’s first AI version in 2024. They include a writing assistant capable of composing messages from brief prompts, summarizing web pages, making grammatical suggestions, and optimizing text brevity.
Kid-Friendly Versions
Amazon also introduces two kid-oriented versions: the Fire HD 8 Kids and Fire HD 8 Kids Pro, both featuring kid-proof cases with Disney themes (Pixar’s Cars, Disney Princesses, or Marvel’s Avengers). These models come with a subscription to Amazon Kids+, the company’s content service for children.
The Fire HD 8 is already available on Amazon, starting at $55 for Prime Day (usually $100). The Fire HD 8 Kids tablet typically retails for $140 but is currently discounted to $70 for Prime Day.
