AMD has confirmed that its Radeon 9070 graphics processors will be launched next March. Here are the key details we have so far.

AMD Reports Revenue Decline in Gaming Division

Leading tech firm AMD recently disclosed its Q4 financial outcomes, joining other tech giants in this routine. Despite a positive overall revenue of $7.7 billion—an increase of over $1 billion from last year—the company’s gaming segment witnessed a significant drop.

CEO Lisa Su highlighted that the gaming division produced just $563 million, marking a nearly 60% fall from the previous year. She attributed this decline to reduced sales of dedicated graphics cards and semi-custom chips.

AMD vs Nvidia: The Competition Intensifies

Nvidia, another heavyweight in the industry, continues to lead over AMD in gaming. The recent launch of its RTX 5090 GPUs, which quickly soared in price, underscores this dominance. Although AMD is Nvidia’s primary competitor in gaming GPUs, its falling revenues reveal a challenging market. The upcoming Radeon RX 9000 series may boost AMD’s competitive edge.

Despite the tough competition, Lisa Su remains optimistic. She announced the launch of the Radeon RX 9000 series, including models 9070 and 9070 XT, slated for March. In AI, AMD is still developing its niche against Nvidia, lagging with its Instinct accelerators and ROCm platform against Nvidia’s dominant GPUs and CUDA.

Radeon RX 9000 Series: A New Hope for AMD?

First unveiled at CES in January, this mid-range graphics card aims to deliver high-quality gaming experiences to mainstream gamers. With Nvidia’s high-end cards often sold out instantly, AMD stands a chance to shine with a more affordable, quality GPU.

The 9000 series is expected to feature a new 4nm process from TSMC, enhancing efficiency. Additionally, AMD’s Fidelity Super Resolution (FSR) 4 aims to compete with Nvidia’s DLSS, offering better ray-tracing—a step up from the 7000 series. “All AMD needs to do now is keep the 9000 series in stock, and perhaps they can attract gamers looking to upgrade who don’t require all the features of a high-end GPU,” concludes our analysis.
