A groundbreaking discovery has been made in Venezuela, marking the first of its kind in the country and promising to be intriguing.

A Startling Discovery in the Heart of South America

In the lush landscapes of the Venezuelan rainforest, a groundbreaking event has occurred. The UNESCO conference “New Worlds, New Ideas” in Italy showcased a significant archaeological find: glyphs, pictograms, and other symbols uncovered in Venezuela’s Canaima National Park.

Digging into the Mystery

According to Science Alert, these enigmatic drawings could “represent a previously unknown culture,” states José Miguel Pérez-Gómez, the lead archaeologist. However, he notes the challenge of analysis: “It’s incredibly difficult for archaeologists to put themselves in the shoes of those who lived over 4,000 years ago.“

Traces of a Forgotten Past

One rock, marked with ocher-red shapes—dots, feather-like drawings, keys, and roof shapes—has particularly captured the researchers’ attention. The team suggests this rock may have served as a geographic landmark, a sacred element in the landscape akin to the symbolic significance of churches in modern societies.

The Dawn of New Research?

These rock art traces are the first of their kind found in Venezuela, though similar drawings have been discovered in other South American countries. “Our initial findings suggest we are looking at a relevant archaeological site,” the team emphasizes. This could pave the way for further research, an exciting prospect given the vast size of Canaima National Park, comparable to Belgium. This discovery reaffirms that South America remains a rich ground for archaeological mysteries.
