Android Users Can Now Backup and Transfer Health Data Across Devices

Android users now have the ability to backup and transfer their health data across different devices. Here's how to do it.
Google Enhances User Experience with Android Health Connect Update
Google has quietly updated the Android Health Connect feature, now allowing users to effortlessly transfer their data across different devices. This update resolves a significant issue that has long plagued the platform.
A Major Improvement
Android Health Connect acts as a central hub for all health and fitness data stored by Android apps. Originally a standalone app, Health Connect has become a crucial component of Android 14 and subsequently Android 15. Previously, the platform lacked a mechanism for backing up or restoring user data, forcing users to slowly rebuild their health profiles when switching devices.
A Step Towards Resolution
Google has been reported to be working on a fix for this issue, and according to a recent Android Authority report, this feature is now rolling out. The update introduces the ability to back up and import user health data as a ZIP file. It’s important to note, however, that there is no manual backup option. Instead, users can set up daily, weekly, or monthly backups. The application uses Google Drive or other cloud storage services to store the data and transfer it to a new device.
How to Activate Backup?
To activate the backup, simply go to Settings > Security and Privacy> Health Connect > Manage Data. This menu allows you to back up and import your data, as well as disable backups, which does not delete old files from the cloud.
What About the Next Android Update?
It appears that the next Android OS update, Android 16, may arrive earlier than expected, with leaks suggesting a possible launch in June 2025. This update is set to introduce a slew of new features, including enhancements for multitasking, the notification menu, quick settings, and much more.
