Apple has recently announced a delay in the update of its voice assistant, Siri. The new version was expected to enhance personal context understanding and enable Siri to operate within apps directly. The launch date remains unspecified, though it is anticipated to occur sometime next year.

Enhanced Version for Greater Customization

In a statement to Daring Fireball, the Cupertino-based company stated the update aims to make Siri more personalized and context-aware. The full statement reads: “Siri helps our users find what they need and accomplish tasks swiftly. Over the past six months, we have made Siri more conversational, introduced features like typing to talk to Siri and product knowledge, and integrated with ChatGPT. We’ve also been working on making Siri more personalized, enhancing its awareness of your personal context, and enabling it to act on your behalf within and across your apps.”

Promising Features Delayed

This enhanced version of Siri was a key component of Apple’s original vision for Apple Intelligence. The company had announced that Siri would not only understand what’s happening on your phone but also interact within your apps. Already deployed features include the option to type queries, the ability to understand and explain Apple product features, a new activation animation for Siri, and integration with ChatGPT.

Reported Problems

Bloomberg was the first to report that the Siri update was encountering issues and might face delays. According to the report, Apple’s plans to connect Siri with a large language model, which would significantly enhance the assistant’s capabilities, are still several years away from fruition.
