The upcoming iOS 19 update is set to enhance more iPhone apps with Apple's AI capabilities, although it won't introduce any major new features.

What’s New in iOS 19

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, known for his reliable insights into Apple’s future projects, reports significant enhancements in the pipeline for iOS 19. The upcoming version of Apple’s operating system aims to broaden the use of Apple Intelligence across more applications.

The Delayed Promises of Siri

However, don’t expect new AI features or a major Siri upgrade soon. A fully revamped Siri, initially tied with the debut of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18, was supposed to arrive by 2024/early 2025 but has been significantly postponed.

It now appears these enhanced Siri capabilities, such as context awareness (reacting to on-screen content), are deferred to iOS 19. The introduction of “LLM Siri” is expected in a later iOS 19 update, while a “conversational” update is planned for iOS 20, presumably launching next year.

Vision Pro: A Major Update Ahead

Contrasting with iOS 19, the next-gen software for Apple’s Vision Pro, visionOS 3, is said to be “packed with features,” according to Gurman. While specifics of this update were not detailed, given the scope of the current visionOS 2.4 beta, a substantial overhaul is expected for Apple’s spatial computing headset.

Major Upcoming Apple Announcements

iOS 19 and visionOS 3 are both set to be unveiled at WWDC, Apple’s major software conference and a platform for past OS announcements, later this year, typically held in June. Another significant change anticipated for iOS 19 is a redesigned interface for the Camera app. Regarding compatibility, it seems that iPhone XS and later models will support the update, though only iPhones with Apple Intelligence will access all features.
