The New Face of the iPhone: Apple Intelligence
Keeping up with the iOS 18 updates since its release in September, users have enjoyed new features like a customizable home screen and a revamped Photos app among various updates. Owners of the latest iPhones – the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 – now have access to something extra. Apple Intelligence features are now a part of the iPhone experience.
Evolving Features Continuously
Not all Apple Intelligence features are available yet. iOS 18.1, released in October, introduced initial AI-powered tools, which were enhanced with additional capabilities in the December update, iOS 18.2. Apple is not done yet; the company has plans to roll out more Apple Intelligence features through 2025.
It’s crucial to note that even if your Apple device can run the new software released in the fall – iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia – it doesn’t necessarily mean your device has the hardware power needed to support Apple Intelligence. Only iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max models have the necessary processing power among Apple devices.
Available Features and What’s to Come
Some Apple Intelligence features are not yet available on all devices. For instance, the “Visual Intelligence” feature introduced with iOS 18.2 in December requires an iPhone 16 and its camera control button. This feature is absent on iPhone 15 Pro models, thus users with these devices cannot utilize their cameras for enhanced information.
After unveiling Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024 in June, it became clear that the company plans a staggered rollout of its new AI tools.
Upcoming Updates
Apple is far from done unveiling the Apple Intelligence features. There are still many AI-powered tools showcased at WWDC that have yet to be introduced on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. A major work in progress might be Siri, which is expected to become more context-aware, including the ability to act based on what’s on your screen, though Apple indicated this won’t be in place before 2025.
If you’re someone who likes precise schedules, we have bad news. It’s unclear when Apple will consider the launch of Apple Intelligence complete. Expect updates to continue at least until March, and it wouldn’t be surprising if adjustments are still being made up to WWDC 2025 and its inevitable unveiling of iOS 19.
