Apple Maps May Soon Feature Ads, Allowing Businesses to Boost Visibility

Apple may soon introduce advertisements on Maps, allowing businesses to pay for enhanced visibility to attract more customers to their locations.
Publicités sur Apple Maps: A New Frontier
Apple is reportedly exploring new ways to boost its revenue streams by incorporating advertisements into its navigation app, Apple Maps.
Ongoing Considerations
According to Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, the concept was discussed in a company-wide meeting aimed at “exploring” this possibility. Notably, this isn’t the first time the idea of ads on Apple Maps has been considered. Similar discussions occurred in 2022, following a report that engineering efforts were “already underway to launch search ads.”
No Rush to Market
However, these discussions do not mean that ads will appear on the navigation app anytime soon. No specific timelines or confirmed projects have been announced. There are multiple ways Apple could integrate ads into the platform, based on previous advertising integrations.
Bloomberg suggests that ads could be implemented similarly to those on Google Maps, where businesses or restaurants could pay to rank higher in search results or to have their locations highlighted on the map itself.
A Revenue Boosting Strategy
These developments are part of Apple’s strategy to increase its Services revenue. The company has already incorporated ads in its App Stores by promoting sponsored apps in search results and on the homepage. Last year, it also moved to an in-house advertising sales team for its Apple News app.
According to Apple Insider, by August 2024, the company held a 51% share in programmatic advertising, marking a 6% increase from the previous year. It reportedly generated about $10 billion in Service revenues from advertisements in 2024.
