Apple Slows Down on iOS 19: Explore the Affected Features
Bad news for iOS 19: Apple may delay the introduction of many highly anticipated features, according to reports.
Delays Anticipated for iOS 19 Features
A recent report suggests that Apple may postpone numerous features planned for iOS 19, mirroring delays previously seen with Apple Intelligence features. These repeated postponements have displeased fans and affected the AI experience on Apple phones.
A Familiar Pattern of Delays
In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman stated: “I’m told that an unusually high number of features originally scheduled for iOS 19 are now pushed back to spring 2026”. This aligns with Apple’s current strategy of delaying numerous software features until iOS 18.4, despite having been announced at WWDC 2024.
Lack of Details on Postponed Features
Regrettably, Gurman could not provide specific details about which features might be delayed. However, he believes the recently mentioned Siri LLM will be postponed. As a reminder, it was reported that Apple has been working on an update to enable Siri to hold conversations, similar to Google Gemini Voice, Meta AI Voice, or ChatGPT Advanced Voice.
Still-Awaited Features
Many features from Apple Intelligence are still anticipated. However, the latest iOS 18.2 beta includes several promised features. One of the most notable is the Visual Intelligence feature for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. The enhanced version of Siri has notably simplified music management during a recent long drive I took.
There is still much to learn about iOS 19, especially regarding the new features it may introduce. Apple is expected to announce this version at WWDC in June 2025, but if Gurman is correct, these announcements should be approached with caution.
