Apple Supercharges Siri in the Style of ChatGPT: What to Expect

Apple is reportedly planning to upgrade Siri with enhancements similar to those found in ChatGPT. Here's what we currently know about this development.
Apple Overhauls Siri for a Smoother Conversation
A recent Bloomberg report reveals that Apple is transforming its intelligent voice assistant, Siri, to achieve fluid and intuitive conversations, similar to Google Gemini Voice, Meta AI Voice, and ChatGPT Advanced Voice.
Siri supports over 35 languages and dialects
Over 500 million devices actively use Siri
Siri processes over 25 billion requests per month
Siri holds about 36% of the mobile voice assistant market
A New AI Model for Siri
Currently, Siri operates with an embedded language model powered by Apple Intelligence. However, this setup falls short for effective conversational AI like that of ChatGPT, which relies on a more extensive, cloud-based model.
According to Bloomberg, a new “LLM for Siri” project would enhance Siri’s reliance on “App Intents”, allowing developers to integrate specific app functionalities with Siri, thus improving AI interactions.
The Future of Siri
This new tool could allow Siri to compete with rival voice assistants, moving beyond merely forwarding creative queries to ChatGPT. If Bloomberg’s report is accurate, the LLM version of Siri might initially launch as a separate app to gather user feedback. An official announcement is expected at WWDC in June, with integration into iOS 19 and macOS 16, though the full launch isn’t anticipated until Spring 2026.
In the meantime, Apple plans to expand Siri’s integration with ChatGPT, alongside other partners like Claude from Anthropic and Gemini from Google, serving as a temporary solution until the LLM version of Siri is ready for deployment.
Global Deployment Considerations
Implementing Siri’s LLM version would likely require running models on Apple’s private cloud instead of directly on devices, necessitating a global-scale infrastructure build-out, a project that will take time.
