Apple to Launch Dedicated Gaming App, Similar to App Store
A month after releasing iOS 18, Apple has begun developing further updates and is increasingly focusing on gaming, working on a new application similar to the App Store but exclusively for games. What could this mean for gamers?
A New Stride in Gaming for Apple
In its quest to offer an ever-more comprehensive service, the renowned tech company Apple has embarked on creating a new gaming hub for iOS. This revelation comes from reliable sources familiar with the matter, who spoke to 9to5Mac.
The upcoming app aims to merge the functionalities of the App Store and Game Center into a single platform, although it is not intended to replace the latter. In fact, it plans to integrate with the user’s Game Center profile.
Enhanced Features for Enhanced Gaming Comfort
Sources indicate that the app will feature several tabs, including a “Play Now” tab, one for the user’s games, and another for friends’ games. The “Play Now” tab will include editorial content and “game suggestions”, as well as display challenges, leaderboards, and achievements. Additionally, games from both the App Store and Apple Arcade will be highlighted in this new marketplace.
Moreover, the app promises to promote special gaming events and provide updates on major releases. Apple is also reportedly experimenting with deeper integration with FaceTime and iMessage within its new gaming app, potentially to enhance communication among players. There’s also exploration into allowing developers to offer mini-games based on App Clips.
In practice, Apple’s new app is expected to function similarly to the Xbox app for iPhone, where players can check their status, track friends’ activity, discover new games, and manage their game library. The aim is likely to make Apple devices more appealing to gamers.
When Can We Expect to See This New App?
Currently, it is unclear whether Apple plans to introduce this new gaming app next year with a future update to iOS 18 or as part of iOS 19. Regardless, gamers worldwide are eagerly anticipating its release.
